Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper is to formulate the economic substance of Intellectual capital. The comparative analysis of definitions and classifications of Intellectual capital was made on the basis of literary sources, and its comprehensive characterization was presented. In view of the economic nature of each type of capital, as well as its specific features related to a personal factor and knowledge aspects, the new definition in two options was proposed, i.e. the narrow and the broad definition, the basic three-element structure was suggested. The objectives were also presented, for the achievement of which it is necessary to expand this classification. The suggested system should form the basis for the development of methods for assessing start-up projects for the Innovation Management and Technology Transfer Centre in Warsaw Polytechnic University.
