Summary/Abstract: This contribution deals with the experiences and memories of Serbian forced/slave labourers in nacionalsocialist Germany. After an introduction to the German forced labour program during World War II it discusses the numbers and legal status of different groups of Serbian forced/slave labourers. The main argument is dedicated to the individual experiences and memories of eleven biographers whose life stories were documented as part of the „International Forced and Slave Labourers Documentation Project”. The focus is on recruitment for forced/slave labour, working and living conditions, repression and punishment and liberation. The conclusion offers some thoughts on the place of former forced/slave labourers’ memories in socialist and nationalist memories of World War II as well as the evaluations of the forced/slave labour experience by the biographers themselves.
