Summary/Abstract: While analyzing the functioning of the foster care system special attention needs to be paid to the process of transitioning into adulthood and independent living by youth placed in foster care. Every person who has reached the age of majority and is being emancipated from foster care is entitled receive help while gaining independence. However, the basic idea of the process of becoming independent is the individual preparation of the youth to take responsibility for their adult life and independence as well as the integration of the already independent ex-foster children with their social environment. The below study presents the theoretical aspect of the preparation and conduct of the transition into adulthood and independence of the youth aging out of foster care.
