Summary/Abstract: Mystery lies in both the knowable but as yet unknown and in the unknowable. Mystery provokes questions and demands answers. Solution may come under the form of answers to those particular questions or under the form of an acceptance of mystery as an insoluble but integral part of our lives. As Basil Hallward suggests in The Portrait of Dorian Gray, mystery makes life ‘delightful’. It is my intention to examine how secrecy works in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass in order to embelish life.
