Summary/Abstract: Research of the level and character of variability of morphological features of 25 mass species of different fish families from inland waters of high and low latitudes (Russia, Central Vietnam) was carried out. It is revealed for the first time, that fish inhabiting reservoirs of low latitudes display a higher level of morphological variation, than freshwater fish of high latitudes. It was found that mouthparts’ features are the most morphologically variable indices in the studied fish species in tropical latitudes. Proposed hypothesis claims that observed high level of intraspecific oral variability of tropical fishes has an adaptive character.
