Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the ideas behind the creative work of the Russian artist Vladimir Sterligov (1905–1973), who, on the one hand, developed the tradition of the first wave of the 20th century avant-garde art (and especially the achievements of his teacher Kazimir Malevich), but who, unlike Malevich, was guided by the spiritual tradition of Russian Orthodoxy, and icon painting in particular.
