Summary/Abstract: In the atelier for restoration of rare books and graphics of the State Historical Museum in Moscow a document titled “Charter of Peter I for the Solovetsky Monastery. Year 1723” was received. The date of origin is contained in the text of the document. Thus, it was recorded on December 5, 1928 upon the document entrance into the museum. The Charter has been glued several times from the back. The paper base turns out to be extremely worn-out, friable and thin. The threadbare textile on which the text of the document has once been repeated, did not prevent it from further destruction. This severe condition of the writing material made it impossible for research.During the restoration, following the separation of the patches on the back of the document, a notice was found: “A copy of the Marchiugov Charter. The original is in the monastery” and signatures for authentication - autographs of the Solovetsky contributors (sponsors): “Archimandrite Fyrs of Solovetsky Monastery”, “Varsonophius, Archimandrite of Solovetsky. Year 1723, January, day 17”. It was clarified that it is a copy of a royal charter dating back to 1700 regarding attributed to Solovetsky Monastery Marchugovska pustyn’ located under Moscow. The copy was completed in Solovka in 1723 for the Marchugov cloister. Thus, after the restoration, the scientific work with the historical source, its reading and research became possible. The date of origin discovered triggered discussions on the clarification of the document’s creation and history.
