Summary/Abstract: Searching for the specifics of Pavlovski’s novels, this paper posits that they be considered from another angle. In the argument provided, the novels are defined as a specific kind of “real prose” with concessions. Examining the relationship between literature and reality, and the dominance of Pavlovski’s novels, while defining mimeticism as a basic poetic principle, the novels are perceived as socially responsible prose, critical of certain aspects of the presented social and political reality. The language in the novels is informal, similar to the demands of “real prose”. But they also imply a process of upgrading by introducing procedures specific to the postmodern, such as mystifications, pseudocumentarity, fragmentation, simulation of reality, uncommon to the story and narration. Unlike “real prose”, Pavlovski’s novels have a conflict between the predetermined and the uncertain, which makes the complexity of the novelistic structure, and the novel world rather polyvalent. This refutes the thesis that a “strong” reality suppresses an inherent literary preoccupation with the invention of worlds through specific, literary language and a complex structure.
