Summary/Abstract: The Academic song and dance ensemble "Siversky Claynody" is the leader of Chernihiv region’s folk choral culture of the first decade of ХХІ century. But investigation of main stages of creative activity by ensemble is not done and that defines timeliness of the chosen topic. The goal of investigation lies in the highlight of guideline activity of the academic song and dance ensemble "Siversky Claynody" as the representative of the Ukrainian professional folk culture. The Academic song and dance ensemble "Siversky Claynody" was created by the Chernihiv Philharmonic Centre in 2002. The artistic leader and main conductor of the ensemble "Siversky Claynody" is Serhiy Vovk. The ensemble consists of choral (22 performers), dancing (18 performers) and orchestra (17 performers) groups. Each group has its own program, which gives an opportunity to show the wealth of our tradition in different directions – choral, instrumental and choreographic. Little forms, such as solo, duets, trio, tradition folk music and others, occupy their place of honour in the repertoire of the collective body in their multicolor of genres. The ensemble recreates the authentic traditional country music of Sivershchina and works on the new separate programs of this direction. S. Vovk, has the aim to preserve the traditions of the native region, to attract the youth to the listening to the folk music with the combination of the past and the present, and also to search for new forms of the expression of the Ukrainian traditions and culture. The artistic credo of the ensemble is to popularize the regional folklore among the widest audience by means of modernization ethnographic material with the usage of syncretic forms of the concert work. The base of the repertoire of the "Siversky Claynody" are the folk songs collected in the expeditions by the choral group and worked by S. Vovk. Ethnographic searching activity of the "Siversky Claynody" as to the record and reproducing of the authentic traditional folk choral culture of Siverschina resulted in the creation of the following concert programs: "The Soul of Siverschina", "Siversky Claynody – only for people", "On the Ivan Kupala’s Day", "Only For you" etc. The programs have different directions. For example, the "On the Ivan Kupala’s Day" program consists of ancient ceremonial, magic incantations and pagan revelry; the "Only For you" program includes Ukrainian songs and dances of the Chernihiv region, which have been collected on folklore expeditions to the countryside. Many of songs from ensemble’s repertoire are unique, never before performed on stage. Their style is taken from authentic singing groups, of which there are so many in Chernihiv region, especially Cossack village folk group "Berehynia". The ensemble’s concert programs are brilliant folk performances that are inimitable and unique to the Northern Ukraine. Concerts of "Siversky Claynody" are invariably well-received in big cites and small towns throughout Ukraine, Russia, France, Spain and others states. The ensemble impressed everyone with the high-grade performance and exceptional presentation of Ukrainian folk songs and dances. This entire time ensemble took part in competitions in Ukraine, Belarus, Austria, Latvia etc. In fact, the Ensemble won 10 competitions. From the 2002–2012 years "Siversky Claynody" performed over 40 Chernihiv region’s folk songs, 15 vocal and dance compositions, 12 choreographic miniature, 22 orchestral compositions, 6 recital programs. The creation of unfold syncretic compositions that combine folk choral performance, dance and instrumental music with sound effects, elements of modern choreography and staging brought an important value to the development of the performing skills and popularization of "Siversky Claynody" art. Therefore, we can emphasize those peculiarities in the ensemble’s art that characterize it as an innovator in the choral life of Chernihiv region. First of all, the ensemble performs the vast ethnographical searching activity of modern folk-singing material of the region, that became the base of the ensemble’s repertoire. Secondly, the structure of the "Siversky Claynody" concert programs is done by S. Vovk in two directions: the entertaining music choreographic staging projects ("The Christmas vertep", "On the Ivan Kupala’s Day", "Se Povisti SoVremenych let" etc.) and chamber programs – presentations of ensemble’s groups. The outlined peculiarities of ensemble’s activity promote the multi-vector nature of its concert work: the participation in the gala concerts, in the international and all-Ukrainian festivals with the aim of artistic competition and popularization of their own art, and taking part in the events and exhibitions etc. to present the Chernihiv region. Summing it up, we can state that the base of creative activity of "Siversky Claynody" is composed of staging choral performance that expands the possibilities of ensemble’s concert practice, adding the audience to the process of staging work. The use of these directions of ensemble’s activity allowed to S. Vovk to create portable art projects that are transformed very fast from the concerts of philharmonic concept into the thematic solo programs of separate musical-choreographic compositions. Precisely this direction of ensemble’s art led it to the vanguard of the Ukrainian choral life, made it one of the most famous national art ensembles.
