Summary/Abstract: This article sets for itself to outline the profile of a politician, Mircea Geoană, as it comes into being during a TV show in an election campaign. The configuration of his political image has two constituents, which represent two important stages in the internal economy of the show. On the one hand, it comes out by means of the retrospective view brought up by one of the moderators when referring to the label commonly attached to the speech of the diplomat Mircea Geoană – a label that precedes the live moments that are about to unfold in front of the TV viewers ; on the other hand, his personality will disclose itself live, all throughout his speech during the show, confirming or denying the initially mentioned appreciation on the part of the electorate. Termed as “stark, formal, diplomatic”, the discursive identity of the former diplomat Geoană is envisaged as defining for his political identity. Thus, his parliamentary candidature is perceived by the electorate as going against his identity of diplomat. Are we in the presence of a discourse that betrays a devide between one’s vocation and one’s candidature ?
