SYMBOL AND ALLEGORY : SIMILITUDES AND DIFFERENCES

Summary/Abstract: The symbol and the allegory are often associated on the basis of certain points of convergence. Both are macrostructural figures which are developed by means of diverse microstructural figures and which harmonize as well in the story as in the description where the allegory appears, generally, as the detailed development of the symbol. But the differences, more numerous, are derived from the scope, which is laconic for the symbol and expanded for the allegory. They also are derived from, and above all, the nature of the relation between the signifier and the signified as well as from the structure of the sense itself.
