Consequences of instrumentalization of ethical codes

Summary/Abstract: Causes standing behind the increasing interest in the implementation of ethical codes within business enterprises are manifold. The most important one is often mentioned a need to intensify the transparency of economic activity, to eliminate corruption and unethical business practices. Ethical codes are able to fulfill these needs and bring measurable benefits, as far as their content is understood, accepted and respected by the employees and the society, as well as if they are construed as an effect of a public debate and become an object of constant generation-to-generation education process. The aim of the article is to specify the impulses and incentives to respect ethical codes as well as to answer the question whether obeying or not obeying the rules influences the ethos of economic activity.
