Summary/Abstract: Ireland is as an example of a country that has achieved economic success. Irish rapid economic growth has been facilitated by many factors, such as the inflow of FDI and EU funds. According to New Institutional Economics, the author of the article assumes that the fundamental determinants of economic development process are institutions. Therefore there were analysed many activities in Ireland that allowed to shape the institutional system, for example: system of law, IDA-Ireland creating conditions increasing the attractiveness of Ireland as a location for foreign direct investment. It was pointed out that the effectiveness of the formal institutions was also influenced by informal institutions such as social trust, which were being shaped for decades within the framework of the social partnership model. Attempts to approximate and define the role of these institutional determinants for economic development processes in Ireland were the research objective of the study.
