Summary/Abstract: The paper is devoted to the use of mixed methods in the study of contemporary mechanisms of creating identity in Polish Western and Northern Territories among the representatives of local governments (at various levels), cultural institutions, organizations, community leaders and inhabitants. The author presents the application of combined both qualitative (in-depth structured and unstructured interviews, observation, mapping, mental maps, virtual ethnography) and quantitative methods (surveys). These methods were employed within the sequential exploratory strategy based on example of the Żuławy and Powiśle regions. The goal of this article is to demonstrate the usefulness of mixed methods during different phases of the analysis of collected data and to explain the benefits of their application in contemporary research on identities.
