Summary/Abstract: The concept of a sustainable development is commonly brought up in respect of many programs and strategies formulated on the national level, in the international organizations, as well as in the individual enterprises. Unfortunately this concept is not executed in the economic practice. Simultaneously, the phenomenon of consumerism is being observed. In this context there are appearing examples of negative phenomena in the field of the quality of consumer goods, which contribute to extending the state of imbalance. The aim of the paper is the attempt at analyzing the connection between the quality of the consumer products and the concept of the sustainable development. The intentional reducing of the quality level of products, noticeable in such practice as “planned obsolescence of products”, is not only acting against the consumer, but it is primarily the tendency that contradicts the concept of the sustainable development.
