The policy of financial support for organic farming in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper article is to present the way of implementation of economic instruments supporting organic agriculture in Poland. It focuses on measures used under the conditions of membership in the European Union (EU). The author used a descriptive and comparative analysis of these solutions on the basis of the factual material, strategic documents, legal acts and statistics showing trends in the development of organic farming in Poland and in the EU. Thanks to the implemention of the subsidies under the agri-environmental programme, rapid development of organic farming took place in Poland. However, some irregularities in that process lowered the effectiveness of discussed measeres − in stimulation of increased production and provision of environmental services. In 2013 these errors were limited through more restricted requirements for farmers. It weakened the stimulus function to the increase in the number of organic farms. Their development is increasingly stimulated by market impulses.
