Summary/Abstract: In this study, Turkey‟s NATO membership and the subsequent foreign policy in the process of joining the alliance is being questioned. In the aftermath of the Second World War within the respect of Cold War order Turkey justified her NATO membership with the Soviet threat in terms of security, Westernization played also an integral part in this justification. In the post NATO membership era Turkey‟s foreign policy has been shaped within the framework of western identity. In other words, being accepted in the NATO on an equal status with other members has led to the assumption that the Turkey‟s Westernization process has been completed, which has affected Turkish foreign policy in the long term. This study claims that Turkey has followed a balanced policy for getting the full NATO membership, and as she became a member of this organisation her lost this balanced stance immediately. This change has been particularly observed in Turkey‟s foreign policy towards the Middle East.
