Preventive Conservation of the Collection of Glass Photographic Plates from Heritage of the Museum of History and Art Zalău

Summary/Abstract: The Museum of History and Art Zalău is the holder, among other things, of a glass photographic plate collection that consists of 152 pieces. The collection of glass photographic plates was subjected to extensive trials of preventive conservation, which were followed by the transfer of images on specific technical media (DVD, HARD DISC external), to facilitate the access of specialists to their study and to extend the existence of these cultural goods. Preventive conservation operations conducted on the glass photographic plate collection comprised cleaning the dust deposits with a soft brush and packaging them in envelopes made of neutral paper type VPCI-144 Cortec (non-chlorine or other whitening chemicals), coated with an impermeable barrier film and inhibitors of corrosion.
