The Library in the Information Society. The Challenge of Change

Summary/Abstract: Articolul prezintă strategiile în ceea ce priveşte managementul instituţional cu referire la biblioteci în pragul noii ere digitale. Tendinţa este una clară: indiferent de relaţia care va exista între industria procesării datelor şi industria comunicaţiilor, tehnologia ne va furniza noi şi extinse capacităţi pentru mişcarea şi distribuirea informaţiei electronice în toate formele dintr-un loc în altul. În acest cadru este necasar un management ştiinţific în domeniul cuturii atâta vreme cât acesteia îi este recunoscută latura economică. The paper exhibits a few of the strategies concerning mainly the institutional part of the specific management of a library that faces the dawn of the new digital era. There is one clear direction: regardless of the releation between data processing industry and telecomunication industry, technology would offer new and extended capabilities concerning distribution and free traffic of the electronic information in all its forms. This is the place where is needed a scientific based management of the arts and culture as long as the main area of their activities are economically based and so they are to be recognized as economic driven activities.
