Summary/Abstract: The nineteenth century saw a writing and reading activity among women, a trend that was associated with the development of the novel, taking place in that period. The genre’s literary ennoblement also meant that ‘female’ elements – a special sensitivity, specified paraphernalia, ideas, images and notions – penetrated into the confines of the fictional world. The twentieth-century criticism, particularly genderstudies-related, noticed a special relation between the Romanticist output – ‘manly’ as it was, of the ‘three Prophet-Bards’ period’ – with female or feminine aspects of the world/universe. An example of such relations was, seemingly, the literary criticism and letter-writing of Józef Ignacy Kraszewski, along with certain meta-literary pieces he has authored, those comprising reflections on the ‘art of writing.’ Depicting creative work with use of actions commonly regarded as feminine means an almost intimate relation between life and literature.
