Summary/Abstract: A symbol of faith, but at the same time a mediator between the sky and the earth, the roadside cross remains even today a constant presence of Romanian villages.Built in different places of symbolic meaning, the roadside cross, a ritualic as well ascatechetical presence, can be seen next to village dwellings or parish churches, founded with the purpose of salvation and in memory of the donor's souls. The„Assumption of the Virgin Mary” Church from Boiţa, Sibiu county, built at thebeginning of the 19th century, houses, in its yard next to the church's southern wall,a stone roadside cross, dated around 1640. In the following study we will attempt toanalyze this presence from the typological and iconographical context of roadsidescrosses of Mărginimea Sibiului.
