Summary/Abstract: Transgenderism represents disharmony between physical sex and the gender which one identifies with. It is a broader term that includes transsexualism, which revolves around one’s desire to initiate the process of transition, physical sex change by means of hormone replacement therapy and surgery in order to make it consistent with gender identity. Films Normal by Jane Anderson and Laurence Anyways by Xavier Dolan deal with two transgernder persons who have decided to begin the abovementioned procedure in maturity. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate how society reacts to transgenderism in the listed films. The main focus shall be placed on the relationship of trans people with their partner, family members, co-workers, as well as on the reaction of broader community.
