The department of oriental collections with the St. st. Cyryl and Methodius National Library and its fund

Summary/Abstract: The fund of Oriental Collections Department includes archival documents in Ottoman Turkish, Arabic and Persian languages, manuscripts and old printed books in these languages, periodicals in Arabic letters from the beginning of 20 th century and contemporary literature. The documents number some 500 000 archival units of single documents, 740 registers (defter) and 158 volumes of sicill. Regarding the manuscript collection it contains about 3810 volumes, the majority are works in Arabic. This fund is a rich base for different researches in the field of orientalistics.
