Summary/Abstract: This article discusses "Życie polskie w XIX wieku" – the opus vitae of its author Stanisław Wasylewski. This forgotten and neglected work, never fully appreciated, has recently been republished few dozens of years after its previous issue. In spite of the author’s undisputable writing skills and, quite much so, the tone he speaks with, reading this work is not a completely easy and pleasant experience. Quite serious associations are triggered based on it – including the timeless matrix of ‘Polish life’ in general, and today’s perspective in specific.
