Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is a critical discussion of social production and distribution concept by Yochai Benkler and the concept of sharing economy by Jeremy Rifkin. Both concepts refer to production and distribution in the networked digital economy, in which network economies of scale can be achieved. This helps achieve profit on the condition that users are attracted by free of charge products. The article presents the sources of profit in commercial applications of network internet technologies. The aim of the analysis of business models is to focus what commercial solutions are in Benkler’s and Rifkin’s “social” models. In the conclusions conditions of providing public goods hidden in these models were formulated.
