Summary/Abstract: The article presents the history of investigations on traditional culture in an institutionalized form in the 19th century and discusses the founding of The Romanian Academy as a great achievement for the preservation of folklore. Hence, when Professor Ion H. Ciubotaru established The Folklore Archive of Moldova and Bukovina he was able to use the important experience of other national and international archives and brought his contributions to the field. 300,000 documents and a long series of published work reinforce the importance of The Romanian Academy influence on the scientifical development of folklore, a century and a half after its establishing.
