Labor supply as a barrier of economic growth in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problems of changes in the labor market in Poland and their impact on the possibilities of further economic growth. The relationship between economic growth, real wages and occupational activity of the population between 1997 and 2015 was analyzed. The decisive factor about the scale of labor supply in Poland in the coming years will be the decline in the working-age population. The article assumes the hypothesis that, due to demographic reasons, while maintaining the current economic trends, labor supply in Poland will become a barrier of economic growth. The projection based on the assumptions of the 2010–2015 economic growth trend, the increase in labor demand and occupational activity of the population, taking into account the estimates of the working-age population, indicates that labor supply will become a barrier even for 3% of economic growth after 2020.
