Demographic changes and proper names of taxpayers from Gabrovo city in the last quarter of XVII th century

Summary/Abstract: The presented translation from Ottoman Turkish is a fragment from a detailed inventory of the names of the men, that paid the per capita yearly tax jizya (haraç) and lived in the village of Gabrovo at the end of the ХVІІ th century. According to the performed tax reform these persons were divided into three categories after their property status. In view of the fact that in the village were recorded approximately 2000 forms of the Bulgarian proper names, the register represents a rich material for the study of this tradition.
