Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses the problem of a low level of economic development of the region of Podlasie. For years, GDP per capita, measured by purchasing power parities, does not exceed 50% of the EU average. The hypothesis is that regional and traditional products are an important factor supporting the economic development of the Podlaskie Voivodeship. The specific location, natural conditions and the fact that the Podlaskie Voivodeship is a melting pot of many cultures, religions and nationalities makes the region a potential for regional and traditional products. Under conditions of growing demand for this kind of goods, this creates new prospects for economic development of the Podlaskie Voivodship.
