From the history of function of cinema section – the political department of the 41st Red Army rifle division in Odessa (1919)

Summary/Abstract: Through the prism of the fact about the belonging cinema section political department of the 41th rifle division of the Red Army (further – cinema section) to production of motion pictures ("Pauki i mukhi", "Parazyt", "Chervona Zirka", "Chervoni po bilym", "Chotyry misiatsi u Denikina"), the article attempts to explore the features of the structure and functioning of the mentioned military-cinematographic organization in Odessa in 1919. As a result, it was established cause-effect relations between the work of cinema section and the process of incorporation Odessa private cinema studios into united, state-owned cinema factory. Pursuing the scientific consideration of questions relating to the establishment and operation of the Odessa cinema factory (1919 – 1930), payed attention to the activities of a military and cinematic organization, such as cinema section. Based on the volume of available information we learned that, in addition to belonging to the military affairs, this organization also credited purely cinematic activity that, somehow, reflected on the history of the establishment of the Odessa film studio. Primarily, the matter concerns: a) control in early 1919 commandeered private cinema enterprises in Odessa; b) production in 1919 number of first Soviet propaganda films ("Pauki i mukhi", "Parazyt", "Chervona Zirka", "Chervoni po bilym", "Chotyry misiatsi u Denikina"). Consequently, having regard to the cinema, it seems actual to carry out research of this military organization in the view of its place in the consisting of the Red Army, as well as give more fully analysis of its cinematic activity in Odessa in 1919. As a result – give some representation of its impact on the formation process of Odessa cinema factory.
