The meanings of manipulation in the current press

Summary/Abstract: This article is meant to consider the significance of manipulation, its starting point ranging from the definitions provided by the dictionaries to its reflection in the media as editorial subject. In the totalitarian period, dictionaries mention only the denotative meaning, the connotative significance being added later, in the end of ‘90s. In the contemporary media, manipulation has become a frequent subject, special attention being paid both to the level of the journalistic text construction (the presence of the key word in the nominal/verbal register of the title, in the initial/final paragraph) and to the content itself. In the examined articles, we have noted the emotional meanings of manipulation in stylistic determinations such as: knavish, ordinary, gross, skilful, vast, double, sad manipulation.
