Verse in the composition of rock ballad

Summary/Abstract: typical verse structure of rock ballad as a genre, based on a triad "space-motion-time", as suggested by Y. Nazailivskyi, is analyzed in the article. The corpus of Western European and national texts, acknowledged to be rock ballads, is an object of the research. Spatial conditions of performance of this genre (rock concerts, studio records etc.), functions of participants of communication (front man, instrumentalists, and audience), their number and manner of communication are represented. The article considers intonational and metro-rhythmic particular of genre, principles of verse formation and dramaturgic functions of verses/couplets of typical rock ballads.
