Summary/Abstract: To be authentic has become one of the challenging tasks because through this way peopleconsider that it is an indicator for personal prosperity and high personal balance between differentaspects of life. The characteristic of being authentic is a familiar concept even in popular psychology.However, there are few empirical studies that investigate this concept related to those of health orfunctionality area, of gender differences, romantic relationship and quality of well‑being. In thispaper, it is presented a small synthesis for this concept and its evolution in research, but also resultsspecific to a study in motivation domain and personal relationships. The subject is even freshernowadays, due to the fact that authentic self can easily be mistaken with one of the central conceptfrom self‑determination theory, the self‑concordant goals. In this paper are presented the differencesbetween concepts and results of the role that this concept has in respect with attaining commongoals, in couples and on long term basis. The suggestions and limits are formulated both forpromoting good practices for life, that are positively characterized, and also to improve the qualityof the methods used in the study.
