Summary/Abstract: J.-M. Rymkiewicz’s reading of Słowacki may be defined using the category of influence understood, after H. Bloom, in a dual manner: First, the writing of the contemporary Polish author (Rymkiewicz) reveals a conflict between the ‘older’ and the ‘younger’ Bard. Second, Rymkiewicz situates himself as a successor in the circle of Słowacki’s historiosophical project and poses the question of how useful this project may be for our understanding of twentieth-century history of Poland. Whereas Mickiewicz denotes a myth-accursed biography which is of necessity liable to a deconstruction in our time, Słowacki stands for scenarios of suffering, meeting today’s need for cultural self-description.
