Summary/Abstract: In the present paper we analyse the manner in which repeated discourse (largely defined by all that represents fixed formulae in the language and culture of a community that can be inserted in new discourses for stylistic and pragmatic purposes) was used as creative resource in the manufacturing of marching signs at the street protests that took place in Romania in early 2017. The chosen analytical framework was discourse analysis, as we studied how protesters “destructured” and “restructured” repeated discourse to express their discontent and disdain regarding some controversial political decisions and their promoters. We found that protestors used all four types of discourse transformation (adiectio, detractio, immutatio, transmutatio), “spiced” up with wordplays using multilingual discourse and code-switching, constructing new messages rich in creativity and humour, which could be integrated into a culture of protest with its own discursive traits.
