Summary/Abstract: Case of railway engineers, transport, railroads. The article shows the emergence and formation of the transport intelligentsia during the pre-revolutionary period. Presented are the achievements of transport experts who in 1809—1865 served the Fatherland as a part of the Corps of railway engineers, and since 1865 — in the Ministry of Railways. It is noted that creation and activity of the transport intelligentsia in 19th — the beginning of the 20th century, up to 1917 was an important factor of social, economic and cultural development of Russia.
