Summary/Abstract: The participation of the lay faithful in ad gentes missions is connected with a new look at the laity, largely developed by the Second Vatican Council and the post-conciliar teaching of the Magisterium of the Church. They recognized and emphasized that the Church is missionary by its nature, and therefore anyone who due to this Church is responsible for the activities of the mission. The purpose of this paper is to present the role of lay persons in the abovementioned activity. This will be accomplished by identifying and discussing the fundamental rights and duties of the laity in the mission of ad gentes contained in the 1983 Code of Canon Law, and by analyzing the specificity of the lay mission to apostolate and evangelization through their participation in the triple mission of Christ: the Prophet, the Priest and the King.
