The Formal Act of Apostasy According to the Church Law

Summary/Abstract: The article presents problem of apostasy according to the Church law. The paper is especially focused on the rules from the 1983 Code of Canon Law. The apostasy implies pastoral problems. The research presents idea of apostasy and it’s evolution based on the Catholic Church documents. It takes into account contents and influence the latest documents: Pontifical Council for Legislative Texts (2006), motu proprio of Benedict XVI Omnium in mentem (2009) and the documents of Polish Bishops’ Conference. In this part of the article the special attention was paid on the effects of remove the reference to the formal act of apostasy from can. 1086 § 1, 1117 and 1124 and changes in procedure of submission and receive the formal act of apostasy.
