Ukrainian society and Ukrainian popular song in the late half of the XX – beginning of the XXI centuries: supply and demand

Summary/Abstract: The aim of the research is to analyse the degree of realization of cultural needs of Ukrainian society in national popular song in the second half of XX - beginning of XXI century and to reveal the features of this process, to identify the causes of the situation, typical of this period. Methodology. The methodological approach means the using of analytical (with an emphasis on inductive variation), axiomatic, elementary and theoretical methods which are used in conjunction with historical (chronological) study. Novelty of the research is in the systematization of the material, related to the history of Ukrainian popular song in the second half of the XX - beginning of the XXI century. The dynamics of the implementation of the cultural needs of society in a popular song, which could be the basis for the deepening of knowledge about popular culture and awareness of its importance for the future of our state, are traced. Conclusions. In the late 1980’s - 1990’s Ukraine lost its control over the production of its own popular cultural product and its distribution. Provided to the role of singing in Ukrainians’ consciousness, the dominance of the non Ukrainian songs is potentially extremely dangerous for the future of state the Ukrainian audience. The need for songs, that can be popular and are able to unite people is extremely acute. This need can be put in practice primarily through the realization and further implementation at the national level the popular song status as very important for the maintenance and development of Ukrainian identity. The common efforts of cultural researchers, composers, poets, musicians, managers of cultural sphere, teachers on the revival of Ukrainian popular songs will contribute to the consolidation of our society and our state.
