Summary/Abstract: This paper makes an attempt to look at modern concepts of money both in terms of trans-national, artificial money functioning as a medium in the economic exchange in its physical form (the euro) as well as global, artificial money operating as a medium of exchange in a virtual and immaterial form (bitcoin). For the purposes of better understanding the importance of artificial currencies functioning in the contemporary economic world, a historical background will be presented as an introduction to illustrate various forms of money and its evolution over the centuries.
