Summary/Abstract: The present article introduces the characteristics of one of the tasks of the municipality which is supplying the inhabitants of the municipality with heat, electricity and gas fuels. First, the notion of the tasks of the municipality is outlined. Next, the article presents the detailed characteristics of the task of the municipality which is the supply of heat, electricity and gas fuels, as well as the different doctrinal qualifications and points of view on that matter. The paper then focuses on legal instruments that are used to accomplish the task. This part provides an analysis of the role of municipality as well as the function of energy companies who also play the significant role supporting the local governments in the accomplishment of the task.The function of energy companies is meaningful in the area of supply of the energy, they are responsible in particular for technical matters while the duties of the municipalities are limited mostly to planning and organizing of the supply. It is crucial to differentiate the tasks belonging to the domain of the local government from those belonging to the energy companies.
