Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses the concept of originality in scientific works and highlights the particularities of scientific creative work, deontological obligations characteristic of research and creative scientific activity as well as the complexity and the difficulty of the process of writing scientific texts. Criteria of originality of a scientific work and a contextual analysis of the notion of novelty are also presented. In addition, the paper illustrates the peculiarities of originality in the scientific domain. At the same time, the paper presents the various meanings attributed to the idea of originality of an intellectual creation by indicating that its main defining mark is the imprint of the authorřs personality and by elucidating, as much as possible, the complicated concept of personal imprint, which marks an original intellectual creation. The paper also shows that originality concerns the form of expression Ŕ the result of the authorřs intellectual formation, form of intelligence, education, imagination, sensitivity, critical thinking and creative potential. Originality involves the authorřs personal vision, too, illustrated by the choices made in producing his work, establishing its structure, that is, the expression, the organization and the systematization of the intellectual creation, and does not refer to its ideatic content, which is considered to be a common good, therefore a free good, which exempts ideas from legal protection.
