Summary/Abstract: The establishment of internet platforms functioning as intermediaries in C2C (customer-to-customer) trade exchange represents a new phenomenon on the tourism market. The purpose of the article is to present the complex assessment of Airbnb competitiveness on the hospitality market sector. The study poses the question whether Airbnb offer can be competitive for the largest global hotel chains. The basic method used in the process of investing the answer was the analysis of secondary sources’ content, including: scientific articles, reports issued by research agencies and the data provided by Airbnb. The competitiveness assessment was carried out based on the identification of competitiveness potential, competitiveness advantage and the position held on the analysed market based on the comparative analysis performed in time and in relation to competitors. As a result of the conducted research it should be concluded that in the initial phase of its functioning the platform was not competitive against the offer presented by hotels and was just complementary to it. Currently, however, Airbnb brand is perceived as the real threat holding high competitive position.
