Summary/Abstract: Seeking new ways of improving the organization, increase its efficiency and effectiveness is an inseparable part of management. In recent years we have seen increased interest in the complex methods of organizational improvement. Managers expect solutions that help to integrate efforts in various areas of the organization in the form of consistent, transparent methodology. The following article aims to systematize the terminology for the continuous improvement of the organization, presenting the history of the concept supporting CI (Continuous improvement) and attempt to indicate the directions of their development in the future. It also indicates areas related to CI, which require further diagnosis and systematization. As a part of the publication a model of CI ideas evolution has been proposed, taking into account business models, cultural background and level of technology. From a rich collection of modern methods of improving the organization the criticism of three main of them has been presented ‒ TQM, Six Sigma, and maturity models. On this basis, potential directions of change in the approach to the improvement of the organization have been outlined.
