Summary/Abstract: The paper clarified the key concepts of research (charity, patronage, sponsorship) and their motivation was examined. Specific peculiarities in formation of the Ukrainian traditions of patronage were analyzed. The European tradition of patronage in the cultural development of Ukraine was researched.
