Summary/Abstract: The paper presents a study of social problems in the regional newspapers of the republic of Tatarstan. Despite the wide range of mass media at the federal and regional levels, including those in the Internet space, regional editions with small circulation and readership remain popular and faithful to their readers. They hold their position in the corresponding segment of the system of mass media by transmitting local information. Regional newspapers aim to ensure the public interests of their readers, regional residents. The content submitted to such papers covers the everyday life of the region, as well as people and their achievements, social assistance, regional traditions and history. They are focused on positive news and love of life. Newspapers of small towns do not cover complex political processes or problems of business and economics. They have no expensive advertising and long analytical texts, thereby describing calm, balanced, and unhurried life. These newspapers are “for people”.
