Summary/Abstract: The importance of the Romanian Holocaust resides in the staggering number of victims, the expediency of the killing operations, in its mixture of police, military, and bureaucratic violence, all efficient and organized, and the proximity to the Holocaust in the Ukraine, different from the “classic” Shoah only in terms of framework and method. Moving from here and aiming for clarity, the present study tries to follow the dynamic of the policy that made the Romanian chapter of the Holocaust possible, a development that was neither incidental nor accidental.
