Summary/Abstract: The essay analyzes the meaning of Deleuze and Guattari’s notion of becoming, the explication of the notions of becoming-animal and becoming-imperceptible in A Thousand Plateaus. It also discusses the expression of becoming-animal in the field of art and its relationship to Deleuze and Guattari’s non-representational conception of art (the logic of sensation, expression of forces, intensive conception of form). It also explores how the notion of becoming-animal and the logic of sensation could be related to the hyperrealistic sculpture created by contemporary Australian artist Patricia Piccinini and representing human-animal hybrids. Deleuze’s non-representational conception of art, formulated in his book Francis Bacon: The Logic of Sensation, is focused on the expression of forces, whereas Patricia Piccinini’s art is treating representation and references as the main form of expression. The article examines the connections and disparities between these two very different methods of art and demonstrates how the notion of becoming-animal could be applied to Piccinini’s work.
