Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the questions of animal representation in cinema and cinema’s animality. Firstly, it delineates the changes in the representation of animals that have occurred throughout the history of film. The tendency to anthropomorphize the animal is emphasized. Secondly, focusing on the ideas by André Bazin and their contemporary interpretations, the ontological relation between cinema and animality is discussed. Finally, by means of the analysis of Denis Côté’s film Bestiarium (2012), the possibility of unconventional aesthetics that can break the anthropocentric system of representation and establish a zoomorphic democratic screen space is discussed.
