Summary/Abstract: In this article, the problems of the legal regulation of the probation service’s functions in Latvia and Estonia are considered. The authors justify the need to share the experience in this area. To improve the legal regulation of the functions of the probation service in Latvia, it is necessary to use the experience of other countries. One of the countries that have accumulated a wide experience of activities and reforms of the probation service is Estonia. The comparative analysis has shown that during many years of searching for the optimal legal regulation of probation, Estonia has made significant progress. Based on the research conducted, the authors have drawn the conclusions and has developed the proposals to improve the legal regulation of the probation service’s functions in Latvia on the basis of the experience of Estonia.
